Many of us seem to struggle with sticking to a weight loss plan. In beginning stages, it is very easy to be completely motivated to meeting our initial weight loss goals. After some time, even if you have been successful, it can be more and more difficult to stay motivated. This drop-off is not a sure thing for everyone, though. People do succeed in losing weight and keep it off for years. What is their secret to this success?
Setting clearly defined goals is one of the most important steps in weight loss. Do you want to break out your old wardrobe that has been gathering dust in the closet, or are your goals bigger? Are you really mostly concerned about improving your overall health? Goals provide focus and allow you to gauge your progress along the way.
Make sure to log your progress on a weekly basis. Write things down in a journal and make sure you weigh in at least once a week. Use the journal to list the foods you eat everyday in a food log. You will be more aware of what you are eating since you will be keeping track of it, and this will lead to you making better food selections.
It is easy to make bad food decisions when you are hungry. During this time you are not thinking of what is healthy, you are just getting whatever food into your body that you can. You should always keep snacks available and schedule time to eat your meals. Take the time to prepare for your meals and pack them up beforehand so you do not have to buy fatty takeout. Using this method you will save money on food and cut down on the calories you consume.
A weight loss plan that incorporates both diet and exercise is best. It is important that you take part in workouts that you enjoy a minimum of five times a week. If you are having trouble including exercise in your normal schedule, try to focus on having fun, rather than doing a workout. Find an activity that you enjoy and make time to do that. How about spending time with your male friends? Take them on in a game of basketball. Is letting your hair down something that you enjoy doing? Dance classes may be the way to go. Do you escape life by going out into nature? Get out there and enjoy a refreshing hike on the trails.
If at all possible, remove junkfood and sweets from the home. Eliminate the sources of your bad eating habits and increase the availability of fruits and veggies. If eating unhealthy foods requires the effort of leaving the house to buy them, you will choose the easier, more convenient option of eating the healthy foods already available.
Give your friends a call. Friends help each other out, right? You can greatly increase the chances of success if you keep the company of highly motivated and positive people. A support system can help you stay motivated to continue. If things aren’t going well, reach out to your friends for support.
